French Music Holidays

Chanterelle is a new music centre in the Poitou Charente in Southwest France. It is in two small farms (fermettes) that have been joined together to create space for music making. Care has been taken to preserve the original character of the buildings. Music courses will be provided throughout the year on various themes. Practical music making and fun are the main elements, all set in beautiful countryside. Tutors will be experienced musicians who are specialists in their chosen fields, having been brought in to run each course according to their specialism.

As well as gaining new musical skills and honing existing ones, there is a great chance for meeting new friends and enjoying a sociable holiday.

There are many beautiful walks around Chanterelle. The venue is just a few minutes from the river Charente and the surrounding farmland is full of sunflowers and corn throughout the summer. The local wildlife is incredible and the house has a large garden for relaxation. Locally are French markets and tourist attractions. The historic tower of Charlemagne, which was part of the Abbaye de Saint-Sauveur, was founded in 785 in Charroux and the 12th century Saint Nicolas’ church in Civray, are both well worth a visit. The historic cities of Poitiers, Limoges and Angouleme are near if sightseeing or retail therapy is required. Further afield, the town of La Rochelle makes a lovely day out, with its seafood restaurants and historic port.
